Privacy policy

About this policy

This policy covers the TippyTip application (the "App"), developed by Timothy Jones. It explains local storage, optional third-party services, and your controls over the content you save. Please read it carefully. If you do not agree with its terms, please do not access or use the App.

Your content and optional services

On your device

Your saved links, tags, summaries, and audio content are stored locally. You can use manual tagging and note-taking without enabling OpenAI features. TippyTip does not send your library to a central developer-operated server.

iCloud synchronization, optional

iCloud synchronization is off by default. If you enable it, TippyTip uses Apple iCloud and CloudKit to store and synchronize your saved links, tags, summaries, and audio summaries between devices signed in to the same iCloud account with TippyTip installed. This data is held in your personal iCloud account under Apple's privacy and security practices.

OpenAI features, optional

When you enable OpenAI, TippyTip can send extracted webpage text for summarization, summary text for tag generation, and generated tags for moderation. When you request or enable generated speech, the summary text—including a summary or note you entered yourself—is sent to OpenAI's text-to-speech service. Microphone recordings are not sent to OpenAI.

These features use your own OpenAI API key. The key is stored in your device's secure keychain and used to authenticate requests to OpenAI. It is not sent to a central TippyTip server. OpenAI's handling of requests is governed by its own service terms, privacy practices, and applicable account settings.

Optional AI requests are not made when those features are disabled. Opening or fetching a webpage still connects to the relevant website. Exporting or sharing content also sends it to the destination you choose.

Developer collection, use, and sharing

The developer does not collect, retain, use, sell, or share personal data from the App. The optional Apple and OpenAI transfers described above occur directly between the App and the service, without passing through a central TippyTip server.

TippyTip does not track you across other apps and websites and respects your App Tracking Transparency preferences. The developer does not knowingly collect personal information from App users of any age.

Because the developer does not centrally store your library, there is no developer-held copy of that library to access, correct, delete, or disclose. Data held by Apple or OpenAI is subject to those providers' practices.

Access, export, and deletion

• Access and edit: view and manage your saved content in the App.
• Export: export your link collection as a CSV file, or download and share audio content using the App's export controls.
• Delete: use the option in the App's settings to wipe saved data. You can also remove the App and its local data from your device. If you use iCloud, review and manage the App's stored data and backups in your iCloud settings as well.
• Optional services: choose whether to enable iCloud synchronization and OpenAI features in the App's settings.

Security and third-party accounts

You are responsible for the security of your devices, iCloud account, and OpenAI account. The developer of TippyTip is not liable for data shared with third-party services. TippyTip does not retain a central copy of your App content.

Future features and policy changes

Any additional features requiring new data sharing will require your opt-in before that sharing is enabled on your devices. This commitment also applies if TippyTip becomes part of another business's portfolio.

Minor updates may improve wording and clarity. Material changes to this privacy policy will require an opt-in. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date.
